Located just outside the town, the ‘Courtenay Beach House’ combines a decades-old foundation with some modern touches. Sure, you’ve got a wood-burning stove to cozy up beside, but there’s also Wifi, a 50-inch TV, and exposed concrete floors to balance things out.

The result is a light, airy space that’s perfect to unwind in after a day of exploring. Especially thanks to a loft-style main bedroom, which keeps the open floor plan intact while still providing you with a bit of privacy. Is the kitchen setup a little weird? Sure, but that’s an easy trade off for us.

Of course, the main attraction here is the location. We weren’t joking about the waterfront setting, as this Vancouver Island Airbnb is literally just steps to the ocean. And for us, it doesn’t get much better than waking up to enjoy a coffee on the patio while you take in all the sights around you.

Our advice? Since this is a fair drive north of Nanaimo, it’s a great opportunity to check out a less-touristy part of the area. Everyone’s been to Victoria and Tofino, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find a similarly beautiful spot for anywhere near the same price in those places.
