The Vancouver forecast for October is out, and it looks like El Niño will be impacting the weather in the region for the month.

Environment and Climate Change (ECCC) told Daily Hive that there is an 80 per cent chance that temperatures will be warmer than average for Metro Vancouver.

Temperatures are expected to rise starting the first weekend of October, with forecasted inland highs of 22°C on Oct. 3 and 23°C on Oct. 4.

According to ECCC meteorologist Jennifer Kowal, the freezing level is also rising throughout the province.

“We are going into a season that’s warmer than average,” said Kowal. “Freezing levels for the next 10 days are going up to 3,000 metres. So any precipitation would fall as rain.”

“There’s a nice clearing over the weekend.”

ECCC’s Canadian Climate Normals data shows that Vancouver’s daily average high temperature in October is close to 14°C, with overnight lows down to 7°C.

The month also averages 123.7 mm of rainfall.

Fall may have just begun, but outdoor enthusiasts got a sneak peek at winter with a major B.C. ski resort receiving a dump of late-September snow.

Big White Ski Resort proclaimed that “snow is on the ground. The countdown is on,” showing off recent photos of snow from their mountain-top cameras.

The announcement was also a teaser for Big White’s ski season opening date of Thursday, Nov. 26, and comes just weeks after two other major ski resorts in the province received a dump of late-August snow.
