Canada’s education system has once again proved it can compete with the top. A new report has ranked three Canadian universities among the best in the world. Here’s what to know.

According to Times Higher Education, its World Reputation Rankings are made using “the world’s largest invitation-only academic opinion survey”.

A number of senior, published academics were surveyed and asked to name 15 universities that they believe are the best for research and teaching in their field.

The survey “uses United Nations data as a guide to ensure that the response coverage is as representative of world scholarship as possible,” according to the report.

As for the 2023 rankings, these were conducted between October 2022 and January 2023, receiving a total of 38,796 responses from 166 countries.

That being said, the ranking mentioned several prestigious universities across the globe. But when it comes to Canadian mentions, the University of Toronto came in at 21st, followed by UBC in 36th, and McGill in 47th.

This isn’t the first time U of T saw itself at the top of a list.

Back in 2023, the Toronto university claimed a top spot for having the most top-50 subjects in global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds’ annual ranking of the world’s best universities.

Once again, the University of Toronto continues to come out on top! But are we really surprised?
