When it comes to education, it’s fair to say that Canada’s universities always make the grade. But one school consistently stands out from the rest and has landed a top spot on the World University Rankings by Subject 2023.

Global higher education analyst QS Quacquarelli Symonds has released its annual ranking of the world’s best universities.

This edition ranks the schools by subject, across 54 academic disciplines — it is the largest student-oriented subject ranking of its kind.

The findings are based on an independent comparative analysis of  15,700 individual university programs at 1,594 universities in 93 countries and territories.

The report uses five different factors to get its results: academic and employer reputation taken from a large global survey, research citations per paper, H-index, and international research network.

You might not be surprised that it’s none other than the University of Toronto that received an honourable mention in the ranking.

U of T claimed the top spot for having the most top-50 subjects of any school in the world, with a total of 48.

However, it isn’t only Canadian university that has claimed an impressive score in the World University Rankings by Subject 2023.

University of British Columbia landed in 23rd place for its Arts & Humanities department, and the University of Waterloo landed an impressive score in Engineering & Technology.

Other Canadian schools made the cut in various subjects, including the University of Alberta, McGill University, University of Calgary, McMaster University, and more.

British institutions like Oxford and Cambridge dominated the charts, landing the top spots in 15 subjects.

U of T has consistently remained the best of the best, and it’s definitely raising the bar for Canada’s post-secondary schools.
