This Canadian city is named among the world’s safest for women digital nomads

Remote work has made it easier than ever to take your 9-to-5 anywhere in the world. But for women, safety can be a key concern. If you’ve ever dreamed of embracing the digital nomad lifestyle, the travel booking platform Holidu has ranked the safest cities for women digital nomads in 2025. And it looks like one Canadian city has made the top 10 list.

Over 150 cities were analysed and ranked according to Holidu. “Women have to consider things like local attitudes toward females and whether it’s safe to walk home alone after dark while travelling, and even more so when relocating somewhere,” shares the site.

“That’s why we’ve put together this index of the safest cities for female digital nomads, using data from actual travellers about where they have felt the most comfortable.”

How safest cities were ranked

In order to determine rankings, seven key factors were used. Those factors are:

1. Comfortable walking alone as female
2. Friendliness to foreigners
3. Friendliness to females
4. Ratio of female to male digital nomads
5. Legislation on workplace sexual harassment
6. Women can take the same jobs as men
7. Digital nomad offering for 6 + months

That being said, several European and Asian cities took over the top 10 list. But amongst the list of top contenders, one Canadian city made the cut. And no, it’s not Toronto, Ottawa or Vancouver – surprisingly.

Canada & Digital Nomads

According to the list, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, came in ninth place. It scored a 69.10 under Comfortable walking alone as female;  great for both friendliness factors; a 25% under Ratio of female to male digital nomads; and a yes for the last three factors.

Though Saskatoon is the only North American city in the top 10, Canada received four more mentions throughout the ranking.

Halifax, Nova Scotia came in 34th, Kitchener, Ontario in 47th, Windsor, Ontario in 55th and Winnipeg, Manitoba in 63rd.

This simply shows that Canada’s presence in the rankings highlights the country’s appeal for digital nomads looking for a safe and welcoming environment.

It’s important to note that though this is a ranking, it should not be taken as your only resource. If you do plan on taking up the Digital Nomad lifestyle, make sure to do your research. Look into the local culture, cost of living, and visa options to find the right fit for you. And while Canada’s largest cities didn’t make this particular list, past rankings have shown they remain top contenders for remote workers worldwide.

Just last year, Vancouver, B.C was named one of the best places to travel as a digital nomad. A few years back, Toronto, Ontario was named one of the best cities in the world for creative digital nomads.
