We’re not surprised that Canada has made yet another list, this time for being one of the most desirable places in the world. Look at us, our stunning landscapes, bustling cities, and multicultural communities – it’s not a shocker that the rest of the world sees us with awe and admiration.
U.K. Travel magazine, Wanderlust has just revealed the winners of its Wanderlust Travel Awards 2022 and Canada managed to snag a few spots in three categories – most desirable country, most desirable city, and most desirable region.
Viewers voted their favourite places, people, and travel brands that have “captured your imagination and ignited your wanderlust.”

Most Desirable Country (Rest of World)
- Costa Rica
- New Zealand
- South Korea
- South Africa
The Great White North won silver, coming in second place just behind Costa Rica. Our beautiful country is listed among some of the most stunning and jaw-dropping countries in the world so it’s an honour to see Canada at the top.
Most Desirable City (Rest of World)
- New Orleans
- Rio de Janeiro
- Cape Town
Montreal was voted one of the most desirable cities in the world, landing in eighth place. Our French-Canadian city was sandwiched between Rio de Janeiro and Cape Town, respectively.
We all know Montreal is a beautiful city and you can probably thank its sustainability efforts for that. Montreal was ranked as one of the most sustainable travel destinations in the world, earlier this month.
Most Desirable Region (Rest of World)
- New South Wales
- British Columbia
- Abu Dhabi
- Western Australia
Now for Most Desirable Region… drum roll, please! None other than our west coast province, British Columbia made third place – winning bronze in the Wanderlust Travel Awards.
