It’s kind of weird that Canada is making a name for itself in, of all things, the golf world. We don’t disagree with it though. But, we were a little bit surprised to find out that one spot has earned the title of the best modern international golf course. In a good way, of course.

The publication Golfweek has released its first-ever list of the best modern international golf courses. We should mention right off the hop that ‘international’ refers to courses outside of the US, since it’s an American publication. Even still, we think it’s worth a look.

Because wouldn’t you know it, the Cabot Cliffs course at the Cabot Cape Breton Resort got the top spot! The list is based on ratings from Golfweek’s own 800-person panel, and Cabot Cliffs beat out both gorgeous destinations like New Zealand as well as the literal home of golf- Scotland. You gotta earn the title of the best modern international golf course, after all.

It’s not the only Canadian name to land on this list, either. In fact, 14 courses are on there, with Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia also getting some nods. We have to admit, we were a little surprised that Alberta’s mountain courses (like Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge) weren’t included. But hey, we’ll take the win anyway.

Thinking of planning a golf trip with some pals next summer? You can check out Golfweek’s list right here, but we suggest instead looking at the roundup of the best public courses in Canada. After all, what’s the point if you can’t actually play there!
