Ontario has a forest driving route through a region few will ever experience

Hit the road this spring and journey along the Boreal Driving Route. The northern Ontario experience leads you through a vast and beautiful forest, past rushing waterfalls and 10 provincial parks. This is a region few will ever get the chance to experience.

If you’re up for a real adventure, pack your bags and hit the road. The Boreal Driving Route is not an easy feat — it’s a 20-hour scenic trip in the province.

You read that right.

According to Ontario Parks, it’s “unlike anything you’ll find in southern Ontario.”

“It’s a region that many Canadians will never see, yet offers so much in terms of history, culture, and natural wonder,” it adds.

Where does it start?

Ready for your adventure? This driving route begins and ends in Sudbury.

According to Ontario Parks, here are the parks you will come across, in order:

  1. Kap-Kig-Iwan Provincial Park
  2. Esker Lakes Provincial Park
  3. Kettle Lakes Provincial Park
  4. René Brunelle Provincial Park
  5. Fushimi Lake Provincial Park
  6. Nagagamisis Provincial Park
  7. White Lake Provincial Park
  8. Potholes Provincial Park
  9. Ivanhoe Lake Provincial Park
  10. Halfway Lake Provincial Park

As you drive through the route, you’ll come across gorgeous views of waterfalls. You will also have the chance to embark on several hiking trails and go paddling throughout the parks. If the weather is right, of course.

Though it may sound like a breeze, the estimated trip duration for the full route is about eight to 16 days. That depends on how long you stay at each park. If you’re only looking at the highlights, it’ll take an estimated five to 10 days.

Though it’s not for everyone, if you plan ahead and pack enough food, we’re sure you’ll love this outdoor adventure.

To make your trip easier, book your park stops through the online reservation service via Ontario Parks.

Explore the great outdoors and discover parts of Canada you didn’t know existed.
