There’s a park in Ontario that’s home to three stunning lakes and a true relic of Canada’s past. Murphy’s Point Provincial Park is a lakeside experience that is a must-see this summer. It boasts its lovely sandy beaches, lakes and a restored, early 1900s mine. Here’s what to know about Murphys Point Provincial Park.

Though the drive is further away for those in Toronto, it’s worth it. The three-and-a-half-hour drive east of Toronto, just north of Kingston, will lead you to Murphys Point Provincial Park.

This little piece of nature’s paradise is located on Big Rideau Lake which is part of the historic Rideau Waterway.

According to Ontario Parks, here you’ll find a mix of wildlife habitats such as forests, wetlands, and even three lakes.

Though we know of Big Rideau Lake, the other two are Round Lake and Loon Lake. There’s also Hogg Bay and Noble Bay worth checking out, according to this Ontario Parks map.

While you’re out on the lake, why not partake in some fishing? Other available activities include wildlife viewing, biking, boating, canoeing trails, swimming in two beaches, and hiking trails.

There are five trails to choose from, easy or moderate. The one to definitely explore is the Silver Queen Mine Trail.

Here you’ll embark on a 2 km partial loop that begins from the Lally Homestead and leads to the restored, early 1900s partially open pit mica mine, heritage displays, and the rebuilt miner’s bunkhouse, according to Ontario Parks.

Though you are allowed to take a self-guided tour along the trail, in order to access the mine you must pre-register for a tour.

Guided hikes and tours can be booked through the gatehouse or by calling the park at 613-267-5060 x0.

“Please note that while pets are allowed on the hike (on leash), they are not allowed in the mine or buildings. Wearing suitable footwear such as running shoes or hiking boots is strongly recommended,” shares Ontario Parks.

On select days there are open house dates for the mine where a reservation/registration is not required.

But, you’ll have to wait until the summer season as tours open in July. Make sure to check out the official events list to find out when you can explore the Silver Queen Mine.
