Calgary & Edmonton named among North America’s most affordable cities

Here in Alberta, we’ve got it pretty good. From the mountains and nightlife to our world-class restaurants and reasonable housing market, Calgary and Edmonton are cities to beat, but it’s certainly nice to see it on paper!

This week, in an annual report released by Oxford Economics YYC and YEG, were named among North America’s most affordable cities, with Calgary placing 9th and Edmonton snagging 4th overall, losing out only to Chicago, Quebec City and Columbus who took the top 3 spots.

On the other side of the coin? Where else but Vancouver, British Columbia – which was named the least affordable North American city ahead of Boise (Idaho), Toronto, Portland (Oregon), and Hamilton.

In addition to the top and bottom 10, the report also concluded that Canada’s housing market would, sadly, worsen in the coming year – though demand will remain pretty high.

Other major takeaways from the report? Canada is actually far less affordable than the United States due to mortgage rates – so do with that what you will, but remember that only one of us has healthcare.
