Toronto’s best restaurants are no secret at this point, but what about Toronto’s best bars? Canada’s top spots to go for a drink have been unveiled in a new ranking, and at the very top of the list is a well-known bar in the west end.
According to Canada’s 100 Best Bars, the best bar in the country is Toronto’s very own Civil Liberties, a low-key spot across from Christie Pits with vintage decor and speakeasy-style cocktails.
“There’s always something new to sample, whether it’s a spicy tequila and snap pea cocktail or a sip of Stone Mother, the latest addition to an awesome back bar and their very own spirit, vacuum-distilled (off-site) from peach pits,” says the description.

“The vibe ranges from alcohol-nerd symposium to full-on party bar, depending on the time of night,” it says. You never know what you’ll get at Civil Liberties, and that’s exactly what makes it so fun to visit.
Also in the top ten is Bar Raval, the ever-popular Spanish bar on College known for its “decadent interior of sinuous mahogany swirls, delicious pintxos, impeccable wine selection, and full-on embrace of daytime drinking.”
Other Toronto bars mentioned in the ranking include Bar Pompette in 11th place, Proof in 12th, and the Bar at Alo in 13th place, which is located inside what’s considered one of the best restaurants in the world.
