A new addition is on its way to Ontario’s shoreline! A life-sized replica of the beloved cartoon character Theodore Too will be calling our shores home this summer. The tugboat left Halifax, Nova Scotia this week to begin its journey here.

Now, if you’re not familiar with Theodore Too, let us give you the rundown. The large-scale replica is based on the titular character in the Canadian television series Theodore Tugboat. The series ran from the early 90s to 2001, with one hundred and thirty total episodes aired. The cartoon character’s unmistakable red cap and smiling face made it a family favourite for years.

So, it’s no surprise that the physical boat was a popular attraction as well. Theodore Too resided in Halifax for two decades before it was sold to new owners last July. Because we know you’re wondering, the price tag on this thing is nearly $500,000.

Theodor is expected to make its arrival in Ontario on July 1st. It’ll be setting up shop at a port in Hamilton, where it will reside for the foreseeable future.

Along with being a cool attraction just to look at, it’s also got the mission to become a champion of sustainability. The tugboat will be converted to biodiesel as soon as it gets here. Plus, it’s said to become a tool in educating Canadians about water conservation and resorting the Great Lakes.
