Real estate is always a hot topic in Canada, and so is rent across the country.
And when it comes to rental costs, it’s no surprise who takes the cake for the most expensive one-bedrooms.
According to The Zumper Canadian Rent Report for January, Vancouver was the only major city in Canada that had one-bedrooms priced above the $2,000 threshold.
In fact, the city’s one-bedroom rent grew 1.4% to $2,130 since last month, while two-bedrooms decreased 1% to $3,050. Vancouver’s two-bedroom rent is up over 15% since this time last year. Yikes.
Looking east, Toronto’s one-bedroom rentals are averaging $1,850, remaining relatively flat compared to last month. But, two-bedrooms grew 3% to $2,400 in the city.

Zumpers report analyzes rental data from hundreds of thousands of active listings across the country, and calculates median asking rents for the top 24 most populous metro areas.
So while Vancouver and Toronto constantly top the list, which cities are on the bottom of this list?
According to the report, the cheapest metro area to rent in Canada is Quebec City, where a one-bedroom averages at $870.
The second cheapest is St John’s, where a one-bedroom is $10 more than Quebec and stands at $880 per month. Who else is on the list?

2- St John’s: $880 for a one-bedroom
3- Regina: $900 for a one-bedroom
4- Edmonton: $920 for a one-bedroom
5- Saskatoon: $990 for a one-bedroom
6- Winnipeg: $1,000 for a one-bedroom
7- Calgary: $1,160 for a one-bedroom
8- Windsor: $1,210 for a one-bedroom
9- London: $1,290 for a one-bedroom
10 – Kingston: $1,330 for a one-bedroom
