Seattle and Washington as a whole are getting some global recognition this week thanks to the University of Washington. The school in all its purple and gold glory has been ranked as one of the best universities in the world in a new ranking by U.S. News & World Report. Just where do we stand? Keep reading to find out.

The new ranking was released this week and ranks over 1,700 schools in countries around the world based on each institution’s academic research and reputation. In the 2022 Best Global Universities list, over 90 countries are represented and this year’s ranking included 250 more schools than last year. And boy oh boy did the University of Washington knock this ranking out of the park.

UW came in #7 place overall with a global score of 86.5/100. Our local university ranked high in studies of Infectious Diseases (#5), Clinical Medicine & Geosciences (#6), Immunology & Molecular Biology and Genetics (#7) among others. What also made UW stand out is the fact that “Research awards received by UW have topped $1 billion in recent years, and the school has more than 280 specialized research centers. ”
