Good news, movie lovers! For the first time since November of last year, Vancouver movie theatres will be able to actually, you know, screen movies once more. Not only that, but both local names and major chains are hopping on board. Here’s what you need to know.

First up, the big names, and specifically Cineplex. They’re pretty much reopening every theatre in Metro Vancouver, including Scotiabank Theatre downtown, the adults-only 5th Avenue Cinema, and the pretty much brand new Park Royal location. Here, you’ll be able to find recent releases like A Quiet Place Part II and Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway.

Meanwhile, The Rio Theatre is starting to transition back into a movie theatre, after a pretty long stint as a ‘sports bar’. We have to admit that their schedule is a little more up our alley, with titles like The Big Lebowski, Minari and Nomadland all showing during their reopening week. We think Minari and Nomadland were two of the best movies of 2020, so we’re definitely interested in seeing them on the big screen.

Finally, we’re keeping our eyes peeled for updates from other local Vancouver theatres. While Dunbar Theatre, The Cinematheque and Vancity Theatre have yet to announce reopening dates, we’re sure they’re getting close as well. So movie lovers, we’ve got a lot to look forward to later this month!

And starting next week, we’ll hopefully be able to start enjoying it at movie theatres around Vancouver!
