There’s a forest near Toronto with accessible trails that’s bursting with vibrant displays of reds, yellows & oranges

A short drive from Toronto is a forest that will feel like an escape much further from the city than it actually is. York Regional Forest is free to visit year-round and it’s a perfect place to spend the day looking at changing fall foliage.

The forest spans over 2,600 hectares with over 7 km of trails that are accessible to wheelchairs, strollers and other assistive devices.

Getting there

As we mentioned, the trip to York Regional Forest is just one hour by car from Toronto.

The forest is free to visit! No day fees will be owed so just park and get ready for a great day.

Things to do at York Regional Forest

One of the most popular activities in the forest is dog walking! The forest includes two designated off-leash areas so your furry friend can blow off some steam.

The Bendor and Graves Tract and the Davis Drive Tract are leash-free spots while the dogs are welcome around the rest of the forest but must be leashed.

With over 150 kilometres of scenic trails lined with vibrant displays of reds, yellows and oranges, autumn is the best time of year to visit.

If you are looking for the accessible trails they are as follows:

  • Hall Tract: 1.5 kilometres of accessible trails
  • Hollidge Tract: 1.8 kilometres of accessible trails
  • North Tract: 1.7 kilometres of accessible trails
  • Nobleton Tract: 1.7 kilometres of accessible trail

If you don’t make it out to the forest during fall you can enjoy the area any time of year including during the winter months!

Snowshoeing is another popular activity and you can plan out your upcoming adventure here.

York Regional Forest is a fantastic place to take your family for the day or explore with a friend!
