This Ontario park with floating boardwalks is an enchanting hidden gem

We love a floating boardwalk moment, and this Ontario park has many of them! Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre could easily be described as a hidden gem and the natural surroundings are enough to take your breath away.

This nature preserve sits on 3,000 acres of provincially significant wetlands and woodlands in the heart of Georgian Bay.

It is open nearly every single day of the year, with activities for visitors of all ages to enjoy in every season.

Wye Marsh is especially beautiful in the summertime — the landscape comes alive with flora and fauna.

In fact, it’s a designated Key Biodiversity Area for all of the birds and creatures that call it home.

In the Birds of Prey field, there are owls, hawks, a turkey vulture, and a bald eagle.

There are 25 km of trails to explore, including several recently-upgraded boardwalks that seem to float above the marsh.

There are four boardwalks in total here, and the longest of them is 500 feet.

You can also paddle your way through the wildlife centre on a canoe or kayak, and in the winter, there are cross-country ski and snowshoe trails.

There are observation areas and a lookout tower to pause and enjoy the views.

And if you’d like a more in-depth experience, you can visit the wildflower garden and the bee house, or sign up for one of the many educational workshops offered on-site.

Ontario is home to some spectacular boardwalks, including Hunter’s Bay Trail in Huntsville and the Crawford Lake boardwalk in Milton.

It’s a great way to get your steps in while immersing yourself in the wonders of nature.
