TIME Magazine’s list of the World’s Greatest Places takes readers on a journey through 50 of the most beautiful cities across the globe, from classic destinations like Barcelona and Budapest to underrated spots like Dominica in the Caribbean or Roatán in Honduras. And this year, our own city of Vancouver made the cut, ranked for its “eclectic cuisine!”

It’s no secret that Vancouver’s dining scene is top-notch, but recognition from TIME certainly comes with its own fanfare.

Food & drink

“Long appreciated by outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy everything from kayaking to skiing, Vancouver’s indoor attractions are finally getting the recognition they deserve,” reads the 2023 article.

Vancouver received its first Michelin Guide last year, and the city has since been on the radar of foodies across the world. A “diverse dining landscape” meets sociocultural travel experiences, and TIME has plenty of examples to shout out.

Michelin-starred Published on Main and Burdock & Co. are among the magazine’s top food destinations, as is Salmon N’ Bannock – the city’s only Indigenous-owned and operated restaurant.

Indigenous-led experiences

Beyond food & drink, TIME celebrates Vancouver’s Indigenous-led experiences and attractions, including the brand new Rainbow Park, which pays homage to the Musqueam, Tsleil-Waututh, and Squamish nations who named the park sθәqәlxenәm ts’exwts’áxwi7 (rainbow).

As well, TIME shouts out Talaysay Tours, Canada’s first Chinese Canadian Museum, and the annual Vancouver Mural Festival.

Hotels

Finally, the article dives into some noteworthy stays in the city. From luxury hotels like Versante in Richmond and Paradox downtown, to Canada’s first Indigenous boutique art hotel, Skwachàys Lodge – there are plenty of options for travellers to choose from.
