Vancouver is certainly known for its amazing food and drink scene, but we have to admit that we’ve got some stiff competition with Toronto and Montreal when it comes to the list of Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants. However, the list is back after a two-year hiatus, and we’ve got some pretty exciting news. Drumroll, please!

Topping the list this year is none other than Vancouver’s own Published on Main! If you haven’t been able two swing by for a delicious plate or cocktail yet, now is certainly your chance.

The 2022 list was compiled by a team of 100 judges and tastemakers, all of whom look at Canada’s top dining destinations from coast to coast. No corner is spared in the search for la creme de la creme.

So, the fact that Published just ranked number 1? Pretty big deal. Let’s dive into what the list had to say about the Main street spot and the incredible team behind it.

Published on Main “came out swinging”

“[Chef] Gus Stieffenhofer-Brandson translates a Nordic sensibility to British Columbia cuisine through his abundant use of finely balanced fermentations, aerated hay custards and foraged ingredients, tramping through local forests to collect most of the wildflowers, fir tips and mushrooms himself.”

The English coffee house-inspired gathering spot initially tried to “be all things,” as the list puts it. Published on Main broke into the food scene fists first, launching swing after swing during a torrential downpour of changing pandemic restrictions.

First, it served a 30-item dinner menu, brunch, and late-night snacks. Then, it launched a guest chef series and a pop-up street patio. Honestly, its commitment to shaking things up during the pandemic is unparalleled (and very much appreciated by the community).

Now, the restaurant has fallen into a comfortable evening rhythm. In addition to the à la carte menu is an elaborate tasting menu serving 9 mains, 8-10 snacks, and the grand finale–3 show-stopping desserts.

If you’re looking for a place to graze on some of the most delicious flavours in B.C., this is certainly the place to do it. Head to 3593 Main Street or make a reservation on their website.
