If “Barbie Girl” by Aqua was, or still is, your theme song, there’s an immersive experience just for you. A 30,000-square-foot, larger-than-life attraction called World of Barbie is debuting for the very first time this Friday, July 22.

The experience transports you straight into the imaginative and colourful Barbie world you loved as a kid, but even those who didn’t grow up playing with the dolls will find something to appreciate about this attraction, including a functioning music production studio, a science lab with microscopes, and even a space shuttle.

Visitors can make their way from room to room, each of them representing one of Barbie’s 250 careers and her iconic lifestyle.

Play instruments and hear yourself sing in the recording studio, test your scientific knowledge in the laboratory, fly down a slide and into a ball pit, and sharpen your on-camera skills with a live newscast at Barbie’s TV centre.

The experience wouldn’t be complete without Barbie’s Dreamhouse, and guests can explore the exquisitely designed rooms including the kitchen, living room with a Malibu view, and of course, the dreamy walk-in closet!

Barbie enthusiasts will really love the camper van, complete with a purple hammock and patio furniture. There is no shortage of picture-worthy moments here, and every corner has something to admire.

But, World of Barbie is “about much more than photo ops” said John Friberg, the Sr Director of Marketing, Digital & Franchise for Mattel Canada, to Curiocity. It’s an opportunity for people of all ages to explore, play, and imagine their life’s possibilities.

“Through imagination and play, the potential for what you can see yourself doing in life is unlimited,” said Fribeg.

As the final stop, you’ll have a chance to learn about the history and evolution of Barbie, with displays showcasing her outfits, careers, and dreamhouses throughout the years as well as the icons from the Tribute Collection.

Once you’re feeling ultra inspired, you can build your own doll to take home in the Barbie Dreambuilder experience for $65 per kit.

World of Barbie is a co-collaboration with Mattel and Kilburn Live, the events company that brought us the Dr. Seuss immersive exhibit in 2019.

Lucy Treadway, producer at Kilburn Live, said that they “had no other choice” but to debut World of Barbie in Toronto after the incredible success of Dr. Seuss.

“The people of Toronto are very special to us,” said Treadway.

Walk-in visits are not permitted at World of Barbie, so you will have to book your timed visit online ahead of time.

Also opening in August is a World of Barbie cafe, which will require a reservation in advance when it opens to the public.

According to Treadway, the plan for World of Barbie is to bring it to other cities around North America. When the next Canadian destination is announced, you already know that you’ll hear it from us first!
