This mountain trail in BC leads to a waterfall and a glacial lake

If you’re looking for a rewarding hike that’s worth the challenge ten times over, you can’t do much better than one at Garibaldi Provincial Park – namely the ‘strenuous’ trail to the famed Wedgemount Lake.

A total of 7 kilometres and 1,200 metres in elevation (4 to 6 hours one-way), the challenging trek rewards hikers and aspiring mountaineers with breathtaking views of a waterfall with a 300-metre drop. While especially steep, the last part of the trail leads to the glacial Wedgemount Lake against the backdrop of Wedge Mountain, AKA the highest peak in the park.

According to BC Parks, the final stretch of the hike climbs up a steep, ‘boulder-strewn’ slope that can be slippery when wet, so proceed with caution!

Those who make it to the top will be rewarded with truly bucket list-worthy views.

Camping & info

Hikers can spend the night at designated first-come-first-serve campsites along the ridge near the emergency-use-only hut and at Wedgemount Lake near the inlet from the Armchair Glacier.

Note that a reservation guarantees you a spot, but not a specific campsite or tent pad.

There are 20 tent pads split between both locations, with year-round pit toilets near the hut and the lake.

So there you have it, BC!
