How many stories and rankings can there be about local rent prices? It turns out a lot, in fact, Washington just made yet another ranking for highest rent in the US. While not entirely surprising, the cities topping the list might have you scratching your head.

These days when a new rent ranking is released we’re all used to seeing Seattle and Bellevue up there. This time, one of those cities is there alongside some unexpected places in Washington. Before we get into the full top ten, let’s take a look at the locally ranked cities.

This year, five Washington cities made the list of the 100 cities with the highest rent in the US. Renton came in at number 8 where rents have increased 86.11% since last year, read that twice if you need to. Then we have Tacoma at number 55, Seattle at number 60, Everett at number 61, and Vancouver at number 90.

And because you’re probably curious the most expensive cities for renters are as follows.

  1. Jersey City, NJ
  2. Boston, MA
  3. Palo Alto, CA
  4. Glendale, CA
  5. Santa Monica, CA
  6. Coral Gables, FL
  7. Hoboken, NJ
  8. Renton, WA
  9. San Diego, CA
  10. Newport Beach, CA

Somehow Bellevue didn’t make the list and Renton overtook both Seattle and Tacoma. Maybe more affordable rent is coming our way here in Seattle. Either way, you can see the full ranking on Rent.com’s website.
