It can be annoying having to pull out your proof of vaccination when you’re heading to your favorite resto or an event. And because this whole system is new for everyone, it has its issues that can slow down what should otherwise be a relatively streamlined process. Luckily, that’s about to change thanks to Washington’s new vaccine QR code system.

All you have to do to receive yours is by heading to the state Department of Health’s WA Verify webpage. You’ll need to enter your first and last name, date of birth, and phone number or email. Additionally, you’ll need to make a four-digit pin that will be required to enter when using your QR code.

Now here’s where it may get a little tricky. Your vaccination provider is the person responsible for giving your vaccine info to the state. And in order to get your QR code, the state needs to have your vaccine record on file. If they do have it you’ll be sent a link to your personal QR code via text or email. You can screenshot, download or print the code depending on your preferences.

If the state doesn’t have your vaccination record, your best bet is to contact your vaccination provider. You can also check the state records by calling 360-236-3595 or by emailing [email protected]. Keep in mind that each individual needs their own QR code and they cannot be used by multiple people. Additionally, your vaccination card will still be accepted by events and businesses, the QR code is simply an attempt to streamline the checking process.
