These last few years have been major for Calgary’s film and television industry with major productions like Ghostbusters: Afterlife and HBO’s The Last of Us filming entirely within the province. Sadly though, it’s not what happens behind the camera that people from all over the world get to see; It’s what magic is made ON screen, which is why we were delighted to see the Alberta-shot series Under The Banner of Heaven finally released its first trailer!

Adapted by Academy Award-winning writer, Dustin Lance Black and starring The Amazing Spiderman’s Andrew Garfield and Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People), Under The Banner of Heaven, is a story of delusion, faith, and violence.

Similar to the Jon Krakauer novel of the same name, the series will follow Pyre (Garfield) a detective who begins to question everything about his church after an encounter with Ron and Dan Lafferty – two men who were later charged with the real-life 1984 murder of their Sister-In-Law Brenda (Edgar-Jones).

From the rolling badlands of Drumheller to the streets of Carstairs, the minute-long teaser trailer only gives us a glimpse of what’s to come but sets Albertans up for a thrilling ride of familiar sights, shocking twists, and notable acting.

Unfortunately, though the trailer confirms that we can expect a wide release in 2022 it’s unclear when exactly we’ll be able to catch the FX series – but we’ll keep you up to date as more information rolls in. We can’t wait!
