One of the “most beautiful small towns in the world” is in the Alberta Rocky Mountains

Surrounded by towering trees, Rocky Mountain peaks, and wildlife, is the town of Banff, Alberta—a crown jewel and must-visit for nature lovers and adventure seekers, as well as those looking to wind down after a long week.

Once named among the 16 most beautiful small towns in the world by Time Out, Banff has a rich history but wasn’t incorporated as a municipality until 1990.

According to their website, it was “the first municipality in Canada to be incorporated inside a national park,” the only other being Jasper which was incorporated in 2001.

Nestled in Canada’s very first national park (established in 1885), at an impressive 1,383 metres of elevation, this breathtaking town is Canada’s highest and offers shopping, cozy cafés, and stunning views.

Nearby are 6,641 square kilometres of largely untouched wilderness full of surprises, bright blue lakes, and impressive scenery.

What to do in and around Banff
