Toronto’s under a winter weather warning ahead of messy conditions tonight

It’s about to feel a little bit more festive in our city with a fresh blanket of snow, but if you’ve got somewhere to be tonight, you best be extra careful. Environment Canada has issued a winter weather travel advisory for Toronto and the GTA in preparation for the snow that’s heading our way this evening.

According to the advisory, “a swath of snow is expected to move through the region from west to east beginning this evening and continuing overnight.”

Up to 5 cm will fall by the time we wake up tomorrow, but the snowfall will be at its heaviest during the evening rush hour today. Environment Canada says drivers should use extra caution as snow accumulates on untreated roads.

Other regions will face similar conditions, including Hamilton, Belleville, Kingston, Waterloo, York, Halton, and Peel.

Sadly, this might be the last bout of snow heading our way before the weekend and there’s a good chance that it’ll be mostly gone by the time we wake up on Christmas morning.

Toronto will be sunny with a high of 3 C on Friday, followed by 5 C and rain on Christmas and 3 C on Boxing Day. So much for the “medium chance” of a white Christmas that we were promised last week.

Although, you may want to enjoy the positive digits while you can because Toronto’s weather will be plunging into the negatives for the first week of 2022.

We’ve got one heck of a wild winter ahead of us here in Ontario, so buckle up!
