It’s about to get really chilly in Toronto, really fast. The city is under a special weather statement due to a “sudden temperature drop” expected later today.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Toronto on Wednesday morning, due to “a sharp cold front with strong winds and a sudden temperature drop,” forecasted for this afternoon and into the evening.

Per the EC, the cold front is expected to head through southern Ontario this afternoon which will cause “temperatures to drop dramatically,” including northwesterly winds gusting up to  80 km/h.

The winds are expected to ease into the night, however the temperature drop may lead to icy surfaces.

That being said, it is important to stay alert and drive with caution as you head outside.

But this icy weather event will be short-lived. According to Environment Canada Weather Preparedness Meteorologist Geoff Coulson, says we should expect the warm weather to continue right into March.

“To start off March on Friday we are seeing a high of 6°C, with the average usually hitting 2°C to start the month. Saturday will reach around 11°C so March is showing a high probability of being much warmer than usual,” Coulson told Curiocity.

“By mid-March, the average is 4°C and by the end, the average is 8°C, but we will be reaching those temperatures already on the first few days of the month to give an idea of just how warm it may get by the end of the month,” Coulson continued.

“We can expect a very warm March.”

So maybe we shouldn’t take out our winter boots just yet. You’ll need that hoodie for tonight though, that’s for sure.
