It’s not very often that Toronto’s restaurants outrank others around the world and this time, the recognition is especially exceptional. Not only does this Casa Loma restaurant do Italian cuisine better than the likes of New York City and London, but also anywhere else in Europe besides Italy.

In a recent ranking of the world’s best Italian restaurants for 2022, Toronto’s Don Alfonso 1890 earned first place. The restaurant is now the recipient of the Prosecco DOC Award, presented by the 50 Top Italy guide.

Don Alfonso is headed by two Michelin Star Chefs, Alfonso & Ernesto Iaccarino, and is known for being Toronto’s most internationally acclaimed restaurant.

The restaurant also received the Meal of the Year Award for its multi-course prix fixe tasting menu that combines top-quality ingredients with a modern, Mediterranean flair.

Of the top 50 restaurants, most of them are located in the United States and France. Don Alfonso’s isn’t the only Canadian restaurant to make it onto the list, either — Vancouver’s Cioppino’s landed in 49th place.

Another Toronto restaurant received similar worldwide recognition back in September. Alo, a French contemporary restaurant in the heart of downtown, was selected by a panel of over 1,000 authorities in the world of gastronomy.

Alo was the only spot in Canada included in the global ranking of 100 restaurants, barely making it at 98th place.

If all this talk about world-class Italian cuisine has your mouth watering, be sure to book your Don Alfonso reservation in advance.
