Toronto will have free outdoor movies in parks all summer long

The season of movies under the stars is about to return here in the city! The Toronto Outdoor Picture Show (TOPS) is making a comeback for the summer with a new series of programming called Curtains Up!.

The films will pay tribute to all of the performing artists we’ve missed seeing live during the pandemic, from dancers to circus acts to musicians and more.

The screenings will take place on 21 different dates between June and August at several outdoor venues, including Fort York, Corktown Common, and Bell Manor Park.

Screenings at Corktown Common will run every Thursday in July and in Bell Manor Park, they’ll run every Thursday in August.

No advance tickets are required to attend. Just pick a screening, grab a blanket and settle in for a free movie on a warm summer night.

TOPS will kick off on June 23 with a screening of Beyonce’s Homecoming documentary. The full list of screenings will be released on May 31.

The festival will also showcase the work of a Canadian rising indie filmmaker named Trevor Anderson, who is one of 10 filmmakers who TOPS sponsored to make a short film in honour of the event’s 10th anniversary.

Also making a comeback this year is TOPS’ signature series, the Christie Pits Film Festival. Every Sunday in July and August, you’ll be able to catch a flick on the big screen at Christie Pits.

Curtains Up! invites us all to gather in public parks to sit together on the grass and celebrate the big show we’ve all been waiting for, on the big TOPS screen,” the website says.

This is one of Toronto’s most quintessential summer activities and we’re so excited to dive back in!
