Beloved Toronto subway station beef patties to get a pop-up this weekend

Those of us who grew up on a diet of Jamaican beef patties (like Simu Liu did) are in for a treat this weekend. Scarborough’s Street Eats Market is hosting a pop-up and farewell celebration for Fahmee Bakery, the makers of the delicious patties sold at TTC stations like Warden and Bathurst.

Just a few weeks ago, the Fahmee Bakery location in Scarborough caught fire and was left completely destroyed by the blaze. Thankfully, nobody was hurt.

Fahmee Bakery announced on Instagram that due to the extensive damage caused by the fire, the owners have made the difficult decision to permanently close the location after 40 years in operation.

“We appreciate the well wishes from all of the friends and family we made on the way and we do hope to come back in some form in the future,” said Fahmee Bakery.

As a final farewell, Street Eats Market has donated its space to Fahmee Bakery for an “empty the patty vault” pop-up this coming weekend, where the last of their patty stock will be sold and celebrated.

“We’re inviting everyone across the GTA to celebrate the life of their Scarborough location,” said Street Eats Market in the announcement.

The patties will be available while supplies last and t-shirts will also be made in tribute to the bakery that supplied these beloved savoury treats.

The pop-up begins this Sunday, May 29 at 2 p.m. sharp — if you want to get your hands on one (or a dozen), you may want to get yourself there on time!

The Scarborough location may be history, but it will live on forever in our hearts.

When: Sunday, May 29, 2 p.m.
