Quick, what’s the weirdest way you’ve fed a furry friend? Have you tossed it food from a balcony? Maybe gotten them to do a little dance beforehand? Whatever you’ve done, we’re pretty sure it doesn’t hold a candle to what the folks at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, British Columbia have been doing to feed their resident grizzly bear. And yes, they have one of those.

In a video posted to TikTok at the end of August, the resort revealed that it casually throws down fruits, veggies, and more to the 700 pound or so Grizzly from a gondola. Because after all, it’s not exactly an animal you’re going to try and hand feed. Well, unless you have a death wish.

And before you wonder if tossing a watermelon to a bear is a good idea, know that this is a unique situation. The bear in question (named Boo) has been a rescued resident at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort for some 19 years, after his mother was killed by poachers. He’s got 20 acres of protected territory to wander around there, making it one of the largest enclosures of its kind in the world.

Since he can’t get the caloric intake he needs just from what’s in there, supplemental feeding is required from time to time. Turns out, it’s a lot easier (and more stimulating for Boo) if that food is scattered around the enclosure.

One thing we will say- no sneaking a watermelon yourself in there to try and do the same. With hibernation season right around the corner, we’re sure the staff is doing more than enough to keep Boo healthy.
