This 129 year-old beer is making a comeback to a Calgary brewery this summer

Most history will leave a pretty bad taste in your mouth, but today’s class will be taught by Village Brewery. As announced this month, the local company will actually bring back a product sold and adored over 129 years ago by its predecessor’s the Calgary Brewing & Malting Company -delish!

With some minor tweaks to the flavour in hopes of appealing to the modern pallet, the new-old beer will also wear not one, not two but four different labels when it hits shelves later this year.

Each is said to pay homage to the historic CBMC, which was originally opened by A.E. Cross, an industrialist, rancher and part founder of the Calgary Stampede, in 1896.

From a matt black fit with an imposing buffalo, a red label a horseshoe watermark, a minimalistic take on the company’s logo and of course, the beer’s original label, Village will only sell the Calgary Beer Craft Lager for a very limited time.

You can order yours on their website here and in participating stores (which can be found here) throughout Alberta.
