Before we turn our attention toward holiday light installations and Christmas markets, we’ve got several different big events coming up this week to share. Namely, the Eastside Culture Crawl, which is returning for its 26th year, and the first-ever IndieFest. And for those who want to learn a bit more about astronomy or check out a retro-themed bar this week, we’ve got you covered too. Without further ado, here are 10 of the best things to do around Vancouver this week (November 14-18).
The 26th annual Eastside Culture Crawl is almost here! Starting Thursday, November 17th, the crawl will take place across 80 different buildings in East Van with more than 500 local artists showcasing their work. Explore the open studios, peruse unique jewelry and home goods, and connect with the artists themselves. Oh, and did we mention this event is completely free?

IndieFest brings together a plethora of emerging musicians and artists from all walks of life to highlight the stories and people that may have been overshadowed by history and tradition. From modern opera and Indigenous art to drag theatre, the festival has it all, taking place across several venues from November 16th to 27th. With 14 in-person events to choose from, we’re sure this year’s program will achieve its goal of inspiring collective healing and a new generation of storytelling.

Take a journey through the universe during H.R. MacMillan Space Centre’s Quantum Cosmology event and dive into hot topics in astronomy and space exploration in this fun evening of science and socializing. Enjoy a custom planetarium show, guest lecturer, drinks, and science demonstrations at this 19+ event.

Switching gears a bit, the Vancouver Giants have a home game coming up against the Blazers on Friday, November 18th. Grab a $20 ticket while you can and head to the Arena Bowl at the Langley Events Centre for the action. You can view the full list of home games scheduled for this season here.

This Thursday, November 17th, The Polygon in North Van is screening two feminist films from Iran: The Day I Became a Woman and The House is Black (dir. Marzieh Meshkini). Note that both films are in Persian, but will include English subtitles. Admission is by donation, and all screenings begin at 7 pm.

Let’s just say that Cannibal Corpse is not rated PG. The Buffalo-formed death metal band with over 15 albums has had several lineup changes over the years, but that hasn’t made their live performances any less interesting or jaw-dropping. Definitely a top pick for fans of horror-inspired music.
