It might be the week following a glorious long weekend, but that doesn’t mean that Vancouver is on the downswing – quite the opposite, in fact! The city is gearing up for the return of several exciting summer events, from Theatre Under the Stars to Deckchair Cinema. As well, there are some pretty big names slated to take the stage in Vancouver this week, including Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa!

So without further ado, here are 10 of the best things to do in and around Vancouver this week (July 4-7).

Theatre Under the Stars

Theatre Under the Stars has been transforming Stanley Park’s Malkin Bowl into a special summer stage for decades now, and it looks like this year will be no different. And this week marks the opening night of Roald Dahl’s “Matilda The Musical”  and the adaptation of Broadway’s musical comedy “The Prom,” so get ready to check out some serious artistry and comedy under the night sky.

Catch an outdoor movie

This Thursday, July 6th, you can catch an outdoor showing of Interstellar 5555 starting at 9:30 pm at The Polygon Gallery’s Deckchair Cinema Series. So grab your picnic blankets and snacks, and get ready to enjoy a free film screening.

While this show will cost you a pretty penny, we’re betting it’s worth every cent. On Friday, July 7th, hip-hop and R&B legends Snoop Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, and Too $hort take the stage at Rogers Arena, in addition to several other performing artists as part of their H.S. Reunion Tour.

Free live music at McArthurGlen Designer Outlet

Thanks to a new partnership with BMO, the Vancouver Art Gallery has launched free admission to the public on the first Friday of every month, from 4 pm to 8 pm. The next free Friday night will be on July 7th  so mark your calendars and get ready to enjoy some after-work art!

Bard on the Beach

Bard’s 2018 blockbuster As You Like It is back onstage with plenty of Beatles hits to go around, accompanied by Shakespeare’s thrilling political drama, Julius Caesar. On the Howard Family Stage, there are two productions you can check out: Henry V, set in a mythical realm, and the interactive ‘Goblin’ comedy, Macbeth, created by an acclaimed team of Canadian theatre-makers.

Explore the Lynn Canyon Suspension Bridge

While it’s a bucket list option for any tourist, the Capilano Suspension Bridge is also a must-visit for Vancouverites. Yes, Canyon Lights are amazing, but there’s something so fun about a summer visit to this woodland wonderland. Not to mention that a photo on the bridge is practically an ID in the city.

Try some new ice cream spots

Nothing sums up summer more than a scoop of delicious ice cream, and Vancouver is absolutely filled to the brim with options. From plant-based treats to some truly zany flavours, you can have a scoop a week and still have stuff left on your list when summer ends.

Stanley Park Pitch & Putt

One of the nicest parks in North America, in the middle of Vancouver, and it’s one of the cheapest golfing options around? Great for those just starting out, Stanley Park Pitch & Putt is a great place to hop to for some after-work putts. And maybe a round of brews from Stanley Park Brewing while you’re at it.
