Outdoor movie lovers, summer is rapidly approaching – which means some of the most popular film screening series are returning to the Vancouver area. Namely, North Vancouver’s family-friendly Sunset Cinema, Summer Movie Nights in downtown Vancouver, and Stanley Park’s Summer Cinema Series. Best of all? All outdoor movies are completely free to watch.

Sunset Cinema

Starting Wednesday, August 2nd, Sunset Cinema will be back with weekly family-friendly screenings of nostalgic classics like E.T. and newer faves like Encanto. So no matter what you’re into, there’s something on the list for your inner child to enjoy.

Here are all the movies you can watch from 9 to 11 pm at The Shipyards:

  • August 2nd: Jumanji (1995)
  • August 9th: Mama Mia 2 – Here We Go Again 
  • August 16th: Encanto 
  • August 23rd: E.T.

When: Wednesday, August 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd

Now, we head downtown for Summer Movie Nights, which will commence on July 6th and run every Thursday evening until August 17th. As for what’s playing, DVBIA has revealed that Twilight, Bend It Like Beckham, Legally Blonde, and The Lego Movie will play on the big screen. So get ready to gather at Šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery for some exciting movie nights.

Screenings will begin around 9 pm, with activations starting at 5 pm.

Summer Cinema at Stanley Park 

From July 4th to August 22nd, you can watch free outdoor movies at Stanley Park’s Second Beach via the largest outdoor movie series in Canada. Here, you can grab a spot on The Great Lawn and watch classics like Bring It On, Jaws, Shrek, and The Wedding Singer on a 40-foot screen.

Deckchair Cinema

The Polygon Gallery is back this year with its Deckchair Cinema series, which will take place every Thursday starting June 29th and lasting until August 31st:
