Toronto is a city that loves its animals. Not only do we locals love our dogs and cats, but also all of the creatures that we share our city with, from trash pandas to black squirrels. Despite being a pet-friendly city overall, some neighbourhoods are considered more accommodating of our furry friends than others. Canadian rental website liv.rent has released a new ranking of Toronto’s most pet-friendly neighbourhoods, based on the number of nearby amenities for pets and the availability of pet-friendly rentals.
The most pet-friendly area of Toronto is Riverdale, namely for the expansive 104-acre Riverdale Park, the dog-friendly Rooster Coffee House, and animal hospital. It’s also a neighbourhood with a significant amount of pet-friendly rentals, both in apartments and homes.
Surprisingly, the second most pet-friendly neighbourhood is the west-end urban enclave of Liberty Village. According to the blog, it’s estimated that around 50% of residents are pet-owners and the condos in the area are known for having relaxed pet policies.

Third on the list is Leslieville, where some of the pet-friendly highlights include the Cherry Beach dog park, Martin Goodman trail, the luxury Paws Playground dog daycare, and the local restaurant for dogs Tom & Sawyer.
Predictably, also towards the top of the list in 4th place is High Park, ideal for dog-owners because of the massive off-leash area inside the park and the number of pet-friendly rentals in the area.
The final few neighbourhoods on the list include Roncesvalles, Trinity-Bellwoods, The Harbourfront, and The Beaches.
According to liv.rent, the GTA is home to nearly double the amount of pet-friendly listings compared to the rest of Canada, with 67% of available units listed as pet-friendly in the Toronto area.
Not to mention all of the dog-friendly socials and festivals around the city, it’s pretty safe to say that Toronto spoils its pups.
