Things are about to get a bit more fun on the Eastside! A major new trail connection is coming that will see the Highway 520 Trail and the Eastrail Trail getting connected with the Northup Way Connector.

And you might be thinking, well aren’t they already connected? The answer is, sort of, because at the moment they cross over each other and have a 20-foot, vertical grade separation. But that obviously isn’t super easy to navigate. So this newly proposed connection would make using both trails a lot easier by merging them.

And we’re all for it, after all, we’ve been spending a lot more time getting active outside since the pandemic. Not to mention, we could use a trail other than the Burke Gilman for once. And the good news is that both REI and Facebook have put up $1 million to make this project happen.

So we’ll keep our fingers crossed that the Northup Way Connector project gets approved and completed by its 2023 timeline. Because we’d love to enjoy a new and improved Highway 520 Trail and Eastrail trail system. So if you’d like to learn more you can click here.
