Alberta-shot “The Last of Us” wins big at Emmys as details for season 2 revealed

Monday marked the 75th annual Emmy Awards, and while several Canadians won big this year, so did the cast of the Alberta-shot season of The Last of Us.

The hit HBO show is the largest series ever filmed in Canada, and is based on a popular video game of the same name. The post-apocalyptic storyline is intriguing in large part due to the incredible acting across the board, which is reflected in this year’s Emmy Awards lineup.

Leads Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey were both nominated for Emmys in the Drama category, and Nick Offerman and Storm Reid took home the awards in the Guest Actor/Actress category for their performances.

What’s more, five other Guest Actors from The Last of Us were nominated this year, including Melanie Lynskey, Anna Torv, Murray Bartlett, Lamar Johnson, and Keivonn Montreal Woodard.

In addition to acting, the show took home 6 other Emmys (8 total) in the following categories:

• Prosthetic Makeup
• Main Title Design
• Sound Mixing for a Comedy or Drama (One Hour)
• Sound Editing for a Comedy or Drama (One Hour)
• Picture Editing for a Drama Series
• Special Visual Effects in a Season or Movie

Season 2 updates

In addition to some major wins, the show has recently dropped a couple of season 2 updates for us.

For starters, three new cast members are joining the show in the new season: Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, and Kaitlyn Dever as Abby.

While filming of the first season took place in Calgary, Edmonton, and tons of other well-known locations in Alberta – much of season 2 is set to be filmed in Vancouver and the PNW, according to Deadline.
