Mountains, a castle & trees: This ‘surprise’ viewpoint is one of the best in Alberta

Dream of getting the ‘perfect shot’? No matter the time of year, photographers, tourists and influencers alike are encouraged to check out Surprise Corner – an incredible destination just outside the Town of Banff.

With trees as far as the eye can see, this ‘secret’ viewpoint is not one to be missed, especially if you’re in need of a new profile picture.

Whether it be day or night, those who reach the stunning port will see the famous Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel, the Bow River below and, if they’re lucky, some Alberta wildlife.

To get there, head to the corner of Buffalo Street and Tunnel Mountain Road.

“You can access this trail by walking along the river and taking the stairs up to Buffalo Street. There’s also a small parking lot at the corner, with access to the Hoodoo trail,” they explain on the town website.

“Please stay on the trail and use the viewing platforms at Surprise Corner to reduce damage to valued flora. Walking on the Corner’s steep and unstable cliffs above Bow Falls is strictly prohibited and an extreme hazard.”

Luckily, there’s plenty to see without having to break the rules, so stretch your clicking finger and enjoy.

There’s no place quite like it.
