Starbucks is changing its rewards program in Canada & here’s what to know

Attention, latte enthusiasts. There are some Starbucks Rewards changes in Canada that you need to know about.

The cafe chain announced this week that starting on February 13th, 2023, rewards members will need to collect more stars to redeem free goodies.

Canadian customers will now need 100 stars to redeem most freebies, including brewed hot or iced coffee, tea, bakery item, or packaged snack — yes, that’s double what it used to be.

The number of stars needed for a handcrafted drink, snack box, or hot breakfast item is going up to 200, which is 50 stars more than the current rewards system.

Lunch sandwiches and at-home coffee will go up to 300 stars and select Starbucks merchandise will cost 400 stars.

If you don’t already know the drill, here’s how the Starbucks Rewards system works.

For every dollar you spend with cash, credit, debit, or mobile wallet, you will collect one star.

If you pay via Starbucks Card in the app, you will redeem two stars per dollar.

As a member, you will have access to exclusive offers that will allow you to collect stars faster, like Double Star Days.

You can also get refills on iced or hot brewed coffee and tea. Most importantly, though, you will get a free treat on your birthday every year.

Through the app you can do things like customize your order and pay in advance, allowing you to skip the line.

Thankfully, the Starbucks Rewards changes coming up this February won’t affect birthday gifts, special offers, and free refills.

You’ll just need to save up more stars to keep the free coffee flowing.
