Canada’s first moon-bound astronaut to lead the 2023 Calgary Stampede Parade

With less than a month until we kick off the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, it was only a matter of time! The folks behind the city’s most anticipated event have finally announced who will lead their 2023 Calgary Stampede Parade and their choice is truly out of this world.

Set to hit the ground trotting next month – the Calgary Stampede Parade is one of the biggest events of the entire year, second only to the 10-day hoedown itself.

As per usual, the organization has outdone itself – inviting a national hero who trained in Cold Lake, Alberta, to officially mark the beginning of this year’s celebration.

Jeremy Hansen, the man who will soon become the first Canadian to venture to the moon as part of the historic Artemis II mission, has been named your 2023 parade marshal, trading his spacesuit for a white stetson and horse.

The first crewed mission to leave Earth’s orbit since 1972, Artemis II will pave the way for deeper space exploration and change the future for the better.

“I am thrilled to be selected as the 2023 Calgary Stampede Parade Marshal and to come back to a province that holds a special place in my heart,” He said.

“I look forward to seeing you along the Parade route in July!”

Want to see him in person? Don’t miss it when he takes to the street on the 7th at 9 am, or on Global with coverage starting at 7:30.

We’ve got liftoff, Calgary! It’s going to be a good year.

THE CALGARY STAMPEDE 2023 PARADE
