Don’t you just love the fresh aromas of a freshly baked wood oven pizza? Well, Toronto’s Sorauren Park is home to a bake oven and this summer it’s been used to serve fresh slices at park events. Here’s what to know about this exciting park feature.

You can thank Friends of Sorauren Park, for this cool add-on which was built in 2017 by the group thanks to generous donors, skilled tradespeople, and Toronto Parks, Forestry, and Recreation.

The great thing about it is that anyone can use the oven as long as you book through Toronto Parks, Forestry, and Recreation’s Oven booking process.

Friends of Sorauren Park offers volunteer assistance and support to book and operate the bake oven.

“The 2024 City permit fee is $32.52 per use and City provides insurance for $33.48,” shares the group. “Please email Kathy at Secretary@SoraurenPark.com and she will send you the City permit with guidance on how to complete and submit; and a printed Bake Oven Use training guide you can read to become a trained operator yourself.”

This summer, through several events like the Farmer’s Market and monthly outdoor movies, the oven has been in use.

They’ve been in charge of making pizzas from scratch right on-site. The pizzas are made to order which makes them super fresh and ready to eat!

“From May to September, there will be hot coals in the oven so you may throw on a few logs and the oven is lit and ready for use,” shares Friends of Sorauren. “However, outside of summer, the oven will be cold and will require a few hours to bring up to baking temperature.”

You can get a slice at the Sorauren Farmers Market on Mondays in the summer from 3 PM to 7 PM until the end of September. So if booking an oven may be too much for you to handle, this is the next best option.

Summer is almost over so get your pizza plans in order before it’s too late!
