This BC park has natural rock pools carved by ancient glaciers

Few natural marvels in BC are as accessible as Sooke Potholes Provincial Park. Situated in the District of Sooke by the Sooke River, the park is home to a series of deep, polished rock pools, naturally carved by glaciers.

According to BC Parks, glacial movement during the last ice age 15,000 years ago carved a deep path into the natural bedrock, leaving the fascinating, crystal-clear potholes that we see today.

The day-use area at the park has become a local favourite, so it’s definitely worth adding to your list of must-see places this summer!

The nearby Sooke River is also worth checking out, as it’s a significant coho and chinook salmon spawning area, with catch-and-release fishing opportunities. It’s also a great spot to catch the annual salmon run!

Note that the park is for day use only, and there are no available facilities onsite. The District of Sooke has instead provided parking, toilet, and garbage can facilities adjacent to the park.

Those intent on camping can head to the 67-site RV and tent Spring Salmon Place Campground at the north end of the park (open until September 11th), where there are garbage bins, toilets, drinking water stations, picnic tables, and fire rings available for use.

So there you have it, BC! Happy adventuring.
