Snowfall amounts at Toronto Pearson Airport is among highest its ever seen

While the snow continues to fall across Ontario, Environment Canada has released some primary reports indicating that the snowfall amounts reported at Toronto Pearson International Airport and Ottawa International Airport are “within the top ten highest snowfall totals reported in a single snowfall event for each of these sites.”

Can we say snowfall again?

Yes, because the as of 12 pm ET, downtown Toronto had already seen 35 cm of snow as the snowfall continued.

According to Environment Canada’s preliminary weather summary, “at times snowfall rates in excess of 10 cm in an hour were reported this morning” in the Greater Toronto Area.

Officially, by noon, Toronto Pearson Airport saw 32 cm of snow. Other parts of the city, such as Downsview, saw 31 cm, which makes downtown the highest accumulation thus far.

These early estimates from Environment Canada change in snow depth as measured by an automated station.

The weather agency also released volunteer snowfall amounts gathered by noon today, with Whitby seeing 52 cm of snow, the highest in the GTA at this time.

Oakville isn’t far behind at 43 cm, and Mississauga saw between 31 and 42 cm of snow on Monday.

Toronto Pearson Airport warned travellers to check their flight status on Monday, as delays were possible due to the “challenging conditions” caused by the snow storm.

The historic storm caused chaos on the roads this morning, shutting down Toronto’s major highways, and even closing our shopping malls.

And even Premier Doug Ford stepped out to help a few people stuck on the road.

As Monday’s is preliminary reports, expect Environment Canada’s final report on today’s snowfall to have a much higher amount.
