High and low, hockey fans all over the world were dazed, confused and delighted when it was revealed that Canada’s boyfriend, Ryan Reynolds, was interested in buying the Ottawa Senators.
This, however, wasn’t totally out of left field given that the Deadpool actor both lived in the capital for quite some time – and recently purchased Welsh soccer team, Wrexham A.F.C.
Still, though, it caught some people’s attention – ours included.
“I am trying to do that,” he told Jimmy Fallon when asked if the rumours were true on a recent episode of The Tonight Show.

“It’s very expensive… so I need a partner with really deep pockets” he continued.
Valued at over $710 million CAD ($525 million USD) by Forbes last December, the Senators come with quite the price tag and while they admit that they won’t be able to write a golden cheque alone, one Calgary company is hoping to get in on the deal.
In a recent letter signed on behalf of the entire company, ticketing giant, Showpass, addressed the icon using words and phrases only another Canadian can truly appreciate.

“We heard through the grapevine that you were looking for a maple mommy (see also, sugar daddy) to buy an NHL team with,” they wrote.
“We can’t fill your pockets, but Showpass, along with our Canadian (yes, all Canadian) investors, may be able to top it with some crisp, maple syrup scented $100 bills.”
In addition to their more formal proposal, they also offered to drink nothing but the actors, Aviation Gin and agreed to attend every game with a cardboard cutout of him.
Honesty, we think that this is a pretty good deal – but until we find out what comes of it, we have our fingers crossed.
We’re rootin’ for you, Showpass! It’s going to be tough to resist those poutine-packed pockets!
