While 2023 is slowly coming to a close, our city is wrapping the year on a high note. Compare the Market just ranked Seattle as the most sustainable city in the US in a new study. Let’s see the numbers, as well as where we ranked globally.

Compare the Market looked at several factors including the use of renewable energy sources, air quality, the number of parks among others. With the number of amazing gardens to walk through and secret beaches in the city, it’s easy to see how and why we’d have such a high score.

The top 9 most sustainable cities in the US are as follows:

  1. Seattle, WA
  2. San Francisco, CA
  3. Portland, OR
  4. Los Angeles, CA
  5. New York, NY
  6. Chicago, IL
  7. Washington DC
  8. Boston, MA
  9. Detroit, MI

Seattle ranked top with a score of 3.007 out of 5 and our biggest highlight was the fact that 99% of our energy comes from renewable sources. It also doesn’t hurt that we have great air quality.

While we topped the charts in the US, Seattle also did quite well in the global ranking coming in 11th place.

With 68% of the total population expected to live in urban areas by 2050 according to the UN, it doesn’t hurt to stay green.
