Seattle and other parts of Washington are under a heat advisory this weekend & here’s what to know

Spring, where? This weekend, Seattle is jumping straight into summer with temperatures in the 80s and maybe even 90s. As such, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for much of western Washington state, including Seattle. Here’s what to know.

Presently the NWS is predicting temperatures as high 81 degrees on May 12th, as high as 86 on Saturday and all the way up to a whopping 90 degrees on Sunday.

According to the heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service, it will be in effect from 2 pm on Saturday to 8 pm on Monday.

“Hot conditions with temperatures in the mid 80s to low 90s expected. This will pose a moderate, to localized major, risk
of heat-related illness,” it states.

The NWS recommends drinking plenty of fluids, staying in an air conditioned space and saving strenuous activities for the early morning or evening if possible.

“Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside,” it advises. “Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing when possible. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational
Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone
overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location.”

Stay cool out there, Seattle!
