There’s a scenic Ontario trail that starts in one town & ends in another

Your next hiking adventure awaits. Make your way to Ontario’s Tay Township and explore its hidden hiking gem. Embark on a scenic journey with stunning bay views along the Tay Shore trail as you start in one town and end in another.

Pack your outdoor bag and grab your friends; you’ll need to head two hours north of Toronto for this outdoor adventure. Set your GPS to Penetanguishene, Ont., the sister city to Midland, Ont.

Trail adventures

According to Destination Ontario, the two “form the gateway to the Southern Georgian Bay region, an adventure playground with clear waters, lush forests and an abundance of nature trails.”

Though there is lots to do in this wonderful region, we’re here for hikes. And one of those just so happens to be Tay Shore Trail. It’s an 18-kilometre paved recreational trail that connects to both Waubaushene and Penetanguishene/Midland.

It is also part of the Trans Canada Trail — a larger, more vast adventure.

“From the Wye River to Waubaushene and into Port McNicoll along the Trestle Trail, users can enjoy the nature setting of the trail which is enhanced by informative plaques outlining the natural and historical aspects of our municipality,” shares Tay Township.

Why not take a look at the Heart of Georgian Bay Road and Trail map for more adventures? There are advanced trails like the 75-km-long Thunder Beach Loop that starts on Main Street in Penetanguishene. Now that’s an adventure.

Make sure to make the most of the outdoors, especially as the weather is set to get warmer.

Stretch those legs and explore the beauty of Ontario’s natural environment.

We know we will!
