The Calgary Underground Film Festival’s 12-Hour Halloween Horror Movie Marathon is coming to the Globe Cinema this month, with seven movies playing from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. the next day. The all-night event will also have a midnight costume contest, food vendors, a bar, and free breakfast before the final movie.
Before you commit to staying up till sunrise, here’s everything you can expect during the full 12-hour movie marathon.
Hosted by the Calgary Underground Film Festival (CUFF), the night kicks off at 7 p.m. with a 10-minute intermission between each film. The Globe concession will be open throughout the night, serving hot dogs and soup, with burgers available during the midnight break.
At 11:45 p.m., the costume contest will take place, and the bar will stay open until 2 a.m. There will also be a free breakfast before the final film at 5:25 a.m.
Seven movies will screen throughout the night, spanning horror, comedy, sci-fi, and cult classics from several different decades. Here’s the full lineup:
According to the Calgary Underground Film Festival, all film start times are approximate, and if you don’t want to miss a movie, they recommend arriving about 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
The movie marathon will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24. The first movie starts at 7 p.m., and the marathon continues through the night until about 7 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25.
The event will be hosted at the Globe Cinema in southwest Calgary. If you’re driving, a few parking options are nearby, including Centennial Parking (Lot 54) behind the theatre on 9th Avenue, where parking is $3 in the evenings after 4 p.m. and $3 during weekend daytime hours from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Limited street parking is also available on 8th Avenue outside the theatre, free after 6 p.m., though spots can be hard to find during CUFF events. If you’re taking transit, the Globe Cinema is about one block from 6th Street LRT Station.
Tickets for the 12-Hour Halloween Horror Movie Marathon are $25 plus fees for regular admission and $23 plus fees for CUFF members, students, and seniors. Tickets are on sale now, and admission covers the full seven-movie marathon, so you can come and go throughout the night.
A limited-edition Halloween Horror Movie Marathon T-shirt is also available to pre-order for pickup at the event. CUFF says only a limited number will be available for in-person purchase on the night of the marathon.
So grab your tickets, and see how many movies you can actually make it through!
