A tasty Vancouver sandwich shop is offering fun bonuses if you help them reopen

If there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s that the sun will rise tomorrow. Well, that and that we absolutely love a good sandwich. So, when we caught wind that Say Hey Cafe wants to return to the city after an almost two-year hiatus, we just knew that we had to talk about it.

Having opened back in 2017, the no-frills atmosphere paired with some downright delicious options made Say Hey a must-try for sandwich lovers in Vancouver. Things were looking great for the first few years, but the shop closed at the start of the pandemic, and hasn’t reopened since.

However, thanks to an update (the first in over a year) released this past weekend, we can say that Say Hey wants to return! What’s more, they’ve brought in a new head chef, Lina Caschetto, to revitalize the place. Born and raised in Vancouver, Caschetto has spent the last 7 years working in and around Paris, but has returned to the city, and even is the person behind the menu at the new Cafe Kitsune.

The new plan is ambitious, but we love the sound of it. Sure, the sandwiches we knew and loved will be sticking around, but they’ll be joined by a wide variety of other sandwiches on a rotating basis. As well, the shop will be leaning even more into the cafe/deli vibe, with sides (soups and salads), pastries and desserts and coming down the pipe. And finally, the early risers among us will get to enjoy some brand new breakfast options for their morning commutes.

Say Hey Cafe is hoping to reopen by the end of February. But naturally, staying completely closed for almost two years has really affected their bottom line. So, rather than give up the dream, the sandwich hotspot has reached out to the community to pitch in, and with some pretty fun bonuses for those that do.

Starting with a $10 donation, backers will receive a personalized postcard courtesy of Antosh Cimoszko and Say Hey. At $25, the guarantee that Say Hey will provide a sandwich to a resident of the DTES. The ‘mid-tier’ donations offer either a limited edition tote bag ($40) or a Say Hey and Speed Parts collaborative t-shirt ($60). Moving up a little bit gives you the chance to attend a cooking class ($250) or become the most-liked person in the office with a catered lunch for up to 10 people ($300). Some of the city’s high-rollers can choose from a private 5-course dinner for 10 ($2,000) or getting a limited edition sandwich with their name on it ($1,000). And finally, the biggest donation of them all offers nothing less than a sandwich a day for a full year ($5,000). Yeah, you’ve got quite a few options here.
